Terms Of Use

1. Introduction

Effective Date: 25/12/2025

Welcome to Quip!

We’re really glad you’re here.

Quip is a voice-first app designed to help you stay close to the people who matter most — through stories, updates, reflections, and everything in between.

Being part of this community means taking mutual respect seriously. These Terms of Use — together with our Privacy Policy and Community Guidelines — outline how we keep this space safe, intentional, and meaningful for everyone.

This User Agreement covers:

  • What you can expect from us;

  • What we ask of you;

  • How we handle your data and content;

  • And how we maintain a respectful and secure environment for all users.

When we say “you”, we’re referring to both individual users and, where relevant, anyone using Quip on behalf of another person, company, organisation, or legal entity with proper authorisation. “Products” refer to our iOS and Android apps, as well as our website. “Services” include everything those products enable you to do.

Please take the time to read this agreement carefully. If anything is unclear, reach out — we’re happy to help.

By using Quip, you agree to follow this User Agreement. If that doesn’t sit right with you, Quip may not be the right fit — and that’s okay too.

2. Eligibility

You may only use Quip if:

  • You are a real person (i.e., not a bot or automated system);

  • You are at least 13 years old, or older if your country requires a higher minimum age for digital consent;

  • If under the age of majority in your jurisdiction, you have obtained the consent of a parent or legal guardian;

  • You have the legal capacity to enter into a binding contract;

  • You are not prohibited from using Quip under any applicable laws or due to previous suspension or removal from our platform.

If you are registering or using Quip on behalf of a third party (e.g., an organisation or company), you confirm that you have the necessary authority to do so.

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate any account if we have reason to believe these conditions are not met.

3. User Accounts

To access most features of Quip, you will need to create an account. By doing so, you agree to:

  • Provide accurate, current, and complete information during registration;

  • Keep your account credentials secure;

  • Notify us immediately of any unauthorised access to or use of your account.

You are solely responsible for all activity conducted under your account. We are not responsible for any loss or damage arising from your failure to maintain the confidentiality of your login credentials.

Use of Quip through automated means, including bots, scripts, or other technologies designed to mimic human interaction, is strictly prohibited. Creating multiple accounts using false identities, temporary emails, or to circumvent account restrictions will result in enforcement actions.

Use of Quip may involve data usage and network charges. These are your responsibility.

4. Content and Behaviour

4.1 User Content

You retain full ownership of all content you submit through Quip, including voice recordings, text, or other materials (“User Content”).

By submitting User Content, you grant us a limited, non-exclusive, revocable licence to access, store, process, and use it solely for the purposes of operating, improving, and moderating Quip, in line with the User Agreement.

Any content marked as “Friends Only” will remain accessible only to your selected audience by default. However, you may choose to apply for a special designation as a Certified Storyteller, by voluntarily submitting User Content that you feel reflects the spirit and values of the Quip community.

If your application is approved, you grant us an expanded licence to use the submitted content for broader distribution, including:

  • A worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free, transferable, and sublicensable licence to use, copy, reproduce, adapt, modify, publish, transmit, display, distribute and otherwise exploit that content across any media or distribution channels, whether known or later developed.

  • Authorised use by us or third parties (e.g., publishers, media partners, advertisers) for editorial, promotional, or commercial purposes.

Becoming a Certified Storyteller is entirely optional. By applying, you confirm that you have all necessary rights to grant us this expanded licence. While we may choose to compensate Certified Storytellers, we are under no obligation to do so.

4.2 Content Responsibilities

You agree not to post or share any User Content that:

  • Violates any applicable laws or regulations;

  • Infringes on intellectual property or privacy rights;

  • Is discriminatory, threatening, abusive, defamatory, obscene, or otherwise harmful;

  • Violates our Community Guidelines.

Although we do not monitor all User Content, we reserve the right (but are not obligated) to review, remove, or restrict access to any content that we believe violates these Terms or creates risk for the platform or its users.

Attempting to re-upload removed content, use disguised formats (e.g., encrypted or rotated files), or circumvent content restrictions through alternate accounts or unauthorised APIs is considered a material breach of these Terms.

5. Privacy

We take your privacy seriously. Our Privacy Policy outlines how we collect, store, use, and share your personal data.

By using our Services, you consent to our data practices as described in the Privacy Policy. If anything is unclear or you have questions, we encourage you to contact us.

6. Intellectual Property

Unless otherwise indicated, all content made available through Quip — including but not limited to our name, logo, design, software, interface, and proprietary features — is owned by us or our licensors and is protected by copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws.

You agree not to:

  • Copy, distribute, modify, create derivative works of, or reverse-engineer any part of Quip;

  • Interact with Quip through unauthorised automated tools, scrapers, or third-party APIs;

  • Use Quip’s platform, code, or data to create a competing service or product.

We reserve the right to investigate and take appropriate action against any attempts to bypass our intellectual property protections or to exploit vulnerabilities in our systems or codebase. We actively monitor for, and block, any unauthorised attempts to access private data, interfere with technical operations, or build competing products or services by leveraging our platform, code, or users’ data.

We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use our software solely for your personal use in accordance with the User Agreement. This licence terminates when your access to Quip ends.

We welcome feedback and suggestions. While we may use them to improve Quip, we are not obliged to provide any compensation or credit.

7. Account Suspension and Termination

We may suspend or permanently disable your account:

  • For breaches of the User Agreement;

  • If we believe your behaviour presents a risk to the safety or integrity of our Services;

  • If you repeatedly submit prohibited content, even after prior warnings.

We generally follow a three-strike rule:

  • Strike 1: A 30-day suspension.

  • Strike 2: 90-day suspension.

  • Strike 3: That’s it. Game over. Permanent ban and device/account blacklisting.

Severe violations (e.g., hate speech, impersonation, illegal activity) may result in immediate and permanent suspension with no prior warning.

You may appeal any enforcement decision by contacting us through this form.

If your account is inactive for over 24 months, we may delete it. But don’t worry, we’ll give you a heads-up first, giving you the opportunity to reactivate it.

You may delete your account at any time via your account settings. Once deleted, your access ends immediately, and your data will be addressed according to our Privacy Policy.

Creating new accounts to circumvent enforcement (e.g., ban evasion) is strictly prohibited. We reserve the right to detect and block such attempts using technical and behavioural signals.

8. Disclaimers and Limitation of Liability

Our Services are provided “as is” and “as available.” We don’t guarantee they’ll always work perfectly (though we do our best).

To the extent permitted by law, we (including our affiliates, directors, employees, agents, partners and licensors) shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages. This includes, for example, any loss of profits, data, business opportunities, reputation or goodwill resulting from your access to or use of the Services.

If any part of this limitation of liability is found to be unenforceable under applicable law, our responsibility will be limited to the greatest extent allowed by the laws of your country. In any case, our total liability to you (for any claim and under any legal theory) will not exceed the amount (if any) you’ve paid us in the 12 months prior to the event giving rise to the claim.

Additionally, if required, you agree to defend, indemnify and hold us harmless from any claims, demands, losses, liabilities, and legal costs (including reasonable attorney fees) that result from your misuse of the Services, your content, or any breach of this User Agreement.

9. Governing Law and Jurisdiction

These Terms are governed by the laws of Portugal. Any disputes shall be resolved exclusively in the courts of Lisbon, Portugal, unless the law of your country of residence requires otherwise.

10. Changes to Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. If we do, we’ll provide reasonable notice, via the app or by other means. Continued use of our Services after changes take effect indicates your acceptance of the updated Terms.

If you do not agree to the revised Terms, you must stop using the Services.
