When you sign up for Quip, we ask for personal details like your:

  • Email address

  • Date of birth

  • Phone number

  • You may also choose to add a profile photo.

From time to time, we might include optional questions during sign-up like “Who referred you?” or “Why did you join?”. These are purely for internal research and are never required to use Quip.

If you get in touch with us — whether to give feedback, ask for support, or report a bug — we may collect:

  • Your contact info (e.g. email or phone number)

  • What you tell us in the message

  • Photos or files you choose to attach

  • Occasionally, a copy of government-issued ID if it’s strictly necessary (e.g. to verify your identity)

2.2 Information You Create

We store content you publish and data generated through your interactions to ensure the proper functioning of our services. Examples include:​

  • Likes on other users’ content;

  • People you follow;

  • People who follow you.​

All this information remains private. Please note that we do not restrict screen capturing or audio recording within the app, so we advise caution with the content you choose to share.​

You may voluntarily submit your posts to become a Certified Storyteller. If your submission is accepted, your content may be featured to represent our services, as described in our Terms of Service. During this process, you may choose to provide additional information, such as:​

  • Your accounts on other social networks (e.g., Instagram, TikTok);

  • Photographs;

  • Any other information you decide to provide voluntarily.

2.3 Information From Your Use of Our Services

We collect information about how you use our services to understand user engagement and improve our platform. This includes:​

  • Usage Data: Information about your interactions with our services, such as content viewed, frequency of use, and interaction patterns.

  • Content Data: Metadata related to the content you create, including timestamps, viewers, and reactions.

  • Device Information: Details about your hardware and software, operating system, browser type, microphone settings, and connection type.

  • Location Data: Your IP address and, if permitted, precise location data using GPS or similar technologies.

  • Log Data: Details of how you used our services, access times, pages viewed, and IP address.​

If you grant explicit permission, we may also access your device’s contact list, photos, camera, and microphone.​

We may employ internal analysis techniques to recognise behavioural patterns and optimise the app’s performance, feature development, and user satisfaction. This information is handled with strict confidentiality and is not used to identify individuals.

This section outlines how we use the information we collect. Our aim is to deliver, maintain and enhance the quality of our Services, while ensuring the experience remains safe. We use the information we collect for the following purposes:

4.3 With the public outside the app

We might only share your content publicly if you voluntarily apply to be a certified storyteller. Before submission, you will be given the opportunity to review and accept the relevant terms.

4.4 With Trusted Third Parties

We may share your data with trusted partners who help us operate Quip — such as those providing hosting, analytics, or security services. They process data under strict confidentiality and only for the purpose we ask.

4.5 With legal, security and safety partners

We may disclose information if we reasonably believe it is necessary to:

  • comply with a legal obligation or government request,

  • investigate or respond to potential breaches of our Terms of Service or Community Guidelines,

  • protect the rights, safety or property of our users, our platform, or others,

  • detect and address fraud or other illegal activity.

5. Data Retention

We retain your personal information only for as long as needed to deliver our Services and support essential business operations.

If your account remains inactive for a continuous period of two years, we will send you an email notification before initiating the deletion of your data.

Should we discover that an account was created by an individual below the minimum legal age applicable in their jurisdiction, we reserve the right to delete the account and its related data without prior notice.

In instances where an account has been suspended, we will retain only the information necessary to help prevent future violations or misuse of our Services.

6. Your Rights and Controls

We believe that giving you control over your data is fundamental to our values. You can manage your information and settings using the tools we provide.

You can access and update most of your basic account details directly within the app by navigating to your settings.

 

6.2 Deleting your account

You may delete your account at any time (more information in the app settings). Your account will first be suspended for 30 days. If you do not reactivate within this period, your data will be permanently deleted.

 

6.3 Managing your content visibility

You have full control over who can view and interact with your content.

 

6.4 Changing device permissions

You can always change your device permissions (e.g., camera, microphone, location) via your device’s settings. However, altering these may limit or disable some features of the app.

 

6.5 Downloading your data

You can request a copy of your personal data (more information in the app settings).

7. Data Security

We take the protection of your information seriously. Your data is stored securely and we implement appropriate technical and organisational measures to guard against unauthorised access, disclosure, alteration or destruction. These measures are reviewed and updated regularly to keep pace with evolving security threats.

Our Services connect users globally, which means your information may be collected, processed and stored in countries outside your place of residence. Whenever we transfer your data internationally, we implement safeguards in accordance with applicable data protection laws.

9. Children’s Privacy

Our Services are not intended for use by children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them. If we become aware that we have inadvertently gathered information from a user below this age threshold, we will take immediate steps to delete it. For users under 16, we may request a parent or guardian’s contact information to ensure compliance with parental consent requirements.
